If you are scheduled for surgery at Durham Regional Hospital for an inpatient procedure with Dr. Kelley or Dr. Minchew, you will have the following pre-op appointments:
  1. At our clinic with your physician.
  2. At Durham Regional Hospital to:
      a) meet with Anesthesia
      b) have pre-op labs drawn
      c) meet with the Hospitalist to provide medical clearance. (If the Hospitalist determines any tests should be administered prior to surgery, they will be coordinated by our clinic.)
  3. For some procedures a blood donation is recommended. We will make arrangements for you at our clinic. NOTE: For some procedures it is required you stop taking anti-inflammatory medication, aspirin, Plavix or any blood-thinning medications 10 days prior to surgery. Please advise us if you are taking any medications that may need to be stopped prior to surgery.
If you are scheduled for surgery at Durham Regional Hospital for an outpatient procedure by Dr. Almekinders, you will only have the following pre-op appointments:
  1. At our clinic with your physician.
  2. At Durham Regional Hospital to meet with Anesthesia and have labwork. (For some patients, based on age and overall health, this may be accomplished with a phone interview.)
Durham Regional Hospital will contact patients the day before their surgery to advise them what time to arrive at the hospital.
